Johor beat 5-time champs Kedah to hoist Malaysia Cup

JOHOR Darul Ta’zim (JDT) were crowned the Malaysia Cup champions a second time after defeating five-time winners Kedah 3-0 in the final at Bukit Jalil Stadium tonight.
It is the third title for the Southern Tigers this season, after they retained the Super League title for the sixth consecutive season and won back-to-back Charity Shield titles.
JDT’s goals were scored by Leandro Sebastian Velazquez in the 27th minute, Muhammad Safawi Rasid (34th minute) and Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad (58th minute).
Following the win, the Johor government declared tomorrow a special holiday for the state, reported Bernama.
State Secretary Azmi Rohani, in a statement, said the holiday is to show appreciation for the team’s success and fans’ undivided support.
“The decision to declare a special holiday is in accordance with Section 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369).”
JDT first won the Malaysia Cup in 2017. – November 2, 2019.
