ACTIVIST Rama Ramanathan said police last night entered his home without a warrant and seized his handphone and laptop.
The Citizens Against Enforced Disappearances (Caged) spokesman said cops, when questioning him at Bukit Aman yesterday, gave no indication that they would come knocking.
“They were at my house, without a warrant, for about an hour. They seized my handphone and laptop,” he said this afternoon at the Dang Wangi police station, where he turned up in support of Parti Sosialis Malaysia leader S. Arutchelvan, who was questioned on a separate matter.
Rama said the officers who took his statement yesterday acted professionally.
He was questioned under the Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act over a blog post on Sabah activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad, who Rama said had almost been arrested under “enforced disappearance” conditions.
He had written about how police came to the home of Jufazli’s sister, where the Sabahan was staying, and were unable to produce a warrant when requested.
Police then detained both Jufazli and his sister, Nurazimah.
Investigation is pending into the March 16 incident, while a court has acquitted Nurazimah of allegedly obstructing officers from arresting her brother. The court also found that police had “no authority” at the time of the incident.
Jufazli had been critical of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accusing the Pakatan Harapan chairman of corruption, abuse of power, and colluding with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and former Sarawak chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud. – November 8, 2019.
