POLICE have stopped providing motorcycle outriders for Najib Razak.

Sources told The Malaysian Insight that Bukit Aman had sent a letter to Najib’s special officer informing him that police outrider services for the former prime minister would cease effective November 5.

Former prime ministers are usually accorded police escort and bodyguard services.

The letter issued by the Bukit Aman traffic enforcement and investigations department was addressed to Mohd Shahrir Mohd Aripin.

Najib’s former officer Isham Jalil posted a copy of the letter on Facebook, along with a complaint that Bukit Aman had failed to give a reason for stopping the outrider services.

Isham blamed the Pakatan Harapan government for issuing the order.

The security detail for Najib was removed last year shortly after Pakatan Harapan led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad won the general election.

Najib had ordered the withdrawal of police outrider services for Dr Mahathi in 2016 and reduced the number of his rival’s bodyguards the following year.
