PAKATAN Harapan (PH) president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had a rare emotional moment when she teared up during a forum held in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

“In 1999 when I first contested in the general election, I was a politician’s wife, not a politician,

“Whatever the tragedy that hit my family, we made it a point to realise our potential.

“That’s why i think we have to go to every individual who wants a better Malaysia and a better future. Something we can repay the country with. That’s what makes me continue in this struggle,” said Dr Wan Azizah during the “3-cornered fight: A win for Pakatan” forum.

The PKR president, who was thrust into politics after her husband Anwar Ibrahim was jailed in 1999, said PH’s main challenge is to convince the voters to vote for them despite the breakdown of Pakatan Rakyat.

“I just remembered a lot of things that happened in my life. There are certain things I can carry but they are certain things I cannot carry.

“I’m sorry I got emotional, I’m just a mother, I watch my children and I want our children to have a better future,” she said.

Earlier, Wan Azizah said the main obstacle for PH is the people’s perception, and this can be improved by forming a government and being a strong coalition unlike what had happened to Pakatan Rakyat.

“We must overcome this problem, how do we regain the confidence of the voters? Will the voters be confident enough to give us that vote in the next general election,” she said.

Pakatan Rakyat fell apart when PAS and DAP cut ties with each other in July 2015. PKR, DAP and PAS off-shoot Amanah then formed PH, which Bersatu later joined. – October 22, 2017.
