A POLICE report has been lodged in Penang against Umno Youth exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, for racist remarks made during the Tanjung Piai by-election campaign.
Penang Northeast chief Soffian Santong said the report was filed on Thursday evening, after a video clip of Azri speaking was shared on WhatsApp and other social media.
Soffian said the clip contained remarks that sounded like they were aimed at stirring racial sentiments.
In the clip, Azri, speaking in Bahasa Malaysia, called for Indians and Chinese to be stripped of their right to vote, if Umno and PAS were to form the federal government.
“I really hope the unity of the ummah (Muslim believers) will succeed. We will be able to form a Bumiputera government.
“If we get a two-third’s majority in Parliament, I want to withdraw voting rights. Indians and Chinese will not be allowed to vote in Malaysia,” Azri had said.
The video contained subtitles in Mandarin as well.
Soffian told The Malaysian Insight the video was posted to Facebook on Thursday, November 14, at 4.08pm.
Yesterday, Azri blamed DAP for recycling an old video recording of him speaking in October.
He also said the clip had been edited, as the entire recording of his remarks would show that he was only referring to Indians and Chinese from DAP, and not the communities as a whole. – November 16, 2019.
