THE trial of former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will proceed after the High Court today dismissed his application to challenge the constitutionality of the 47 charges against him.

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah ruled that the issue of constitutionality of the charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Anti Money Laundering, Anti Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 was premature as the trial has not started.

“The challenge at this point is premature where it hypothetically assumes admissibility of the documents presented by the prosecution,” he said, when delivering his judgement.

The judge told the prosecution to give advance notice to the defence when producing documents for evidence in the case.

He said he would decide on the admissibility of those documents once the prosecution completed its case against the accused.

Sequerah ordered the prosecution to commence trial.

Charges against Zahid include bribery and criminal breach of trust and are linked to millions of ringgit of Yayasan Akalbudi funds . – November 18, 2019.
