Cabinet reshuffle up to PM, no power to oppose, says Mat Sabu

THE cabinet reshuffle is the prerogative of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu.
Mohamad, who is Amanah president, said he does not have the power to agree or disagree with any changes the prime minister wants to make.
“It is up to Dr Mahathir if he wants to reshuffle the cabinet. It is his right. He can do it any time and I leave it to him.
“Whether I agree or not, it is his right,” he said when opening Penang Amanah’s convention in George Town today.
On Wednesday, Dr Mahathir said he would consider reshuffling the cabinet following Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) crushing defeat in the Tg Piai by-election.
“I, as the prime minister, have to be responsible for a cabinet reshuffle. I have heard their views and will consider demands for a reshuffle.
“It won’t happen today or tomorrow but after we have studied and observed the achievements of the existing ministers.
“We will only discuss the need for a reshuffle after that,” Dr Mahathir told reporters after chairing the Bersatu supreme council meeting in Petaling Jaya.
Last Saturday, PH lost the Tg Piai by-election to Barisan Nasional by an unexpected 15,000-vote margin.
The results have since been cast as a rejection of PH’s 18 months in federal power and prompted calls for Dr Mahathir to resign. – November 23, 2019.
