BUSINESSMAN Bustari Yusof has forfeited some RM3.7 million to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as part of a settlement for a 1Malaysia Development Bhd-related forfeiture suit.
Deputy public prosecutor Allan Suman informed the Kuala Lumpur High Court today that MACC said it received a cheque amounting to RM3.683 million yesterday.
Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the prosecutors to withdraw their summons against Bustari.
“The prosecution has also given instructions to unfreeze the account (belonging to Bustari),” Allan told the court.
Representing Bustari were Mohd Yusof Zainal Abidin and Tiara Katrina Fuad.
MACC filed a suit in July to seize RM11.92 million from Bustari.
His lawyers later sent a representation letter to Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, containing a proposal for settlement.
Bustari, a close confidant of Najib Razak’s and brother of former works minister Fadillah Yusof, was not present in court today.
He reportedly left the country after the May 9 elections last year, when Pakatan Harapan swept into power.
Today’s hearing is part of a larger suit by MACC against 41 entities and individuals to seize RM270 million of 1MDB funds. – November 26, 2019.
