POLITICIANS can help the police by not stoking racial tensions that could disrupt public order,  said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador

Hamid said those using race and religious issues for political gain were burdening the police department and wasting its time.

“I appeal to members of political parties and their leaders to better understand the dynamics of this country. We are of various races and religions. We should use the diversity to build strength.

“If politicians can be fine with one another in parliament, then why show a different face to the public?

“I urge them to be responsible. I hope they use their wisdom and be more patient. There would be nothing they cannot solve if such were to be the case. Such sensitive issues are just hurting the people and are detrimental to the country,” he told reporters in Bukit Aman today.

Hamid said that as most of the activities organised by political parties took place at the weekend, police needed to work overtime to ensure nothing untoward happened at those events

He said rather than wasting time on such “petty” matters, the police would prefer to use the time to catch criminals and solve drug cases.

Hamid said his main priority this year was to improve the integrity of the police force and and its service delivery across the board. – January 6, 2020.
