PAS’ bid to move in Parliament a confidence vote on Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership is aimed at breaking up Pakatan Harapan, said Anwar Ibrahim

The PKR president said the motion is the Islamist party’s latest move to break up the government after it failed to win the 14th general election.

The Port Dickson MP was confident the Islamist party will not succeed.

“It’s normal for PAS. That is a motion from PAS, we do not consider it serious. It is an attempt to break up PH.

“They (PAS) will fail. They failed in the general election and this is a new strategy from them. We will not be cheated by it,” he said after an event with Alumni Yayasan Anda in Kuala Lumpur today.

Anwar said there was no need for the PH presidential council to discuss the motion, which he described as baseless.

“I don’t think this is necessary. There is no basis for this. Never in the history (the opposition sought to reinforce confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership), but this is PAS.,” he said

On Sunday, PAS said it will be discussing with Umno at its muafakat nasional monthly meeting today its proposal to move for a vote of confidence in Dr Mahathir.

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said a vote of confidence should be put through in Parliament due to the political instability caused by the agreement to hand over the post of prime minister to Anwar Ibrahim.

Tuan Ibrahim said the motion would be moved by private member’s bill, which could be taken by any MP and it was up to the house to accept or reject it.

Yesterday, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the Malay party will make a decision when the time was right. – February 11, 2020.
