THE Kota Baru-Kuala Krai highway, which is under the Central Spine Road project, will be a toll-free highway, says Deputy Works Minister Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.

Rosnah, who is also Papar MP, told the Dewan Rakyat today that the federal government will use its resources for the maintenance of the 61.36km-long highway.

The Central Spine Road, as well as the highway connected to Kuala Krai, will be toll-free.

“(And) as other federal roads, it will be maintained using funds allocated by the government,” she said during a question-and-answer session.

She was responding to Tumpat MP Kamaruddin Jaafar’s query on the development of the Kota Baru-Kuala Krai highway project and to what extent the project was being coordinated with the state government.

She said the implementation of the project started with three construction packages – package 1B, from Pasir Hok to Kadok (7km), which began in April 2014 and is expected to be completed in February next year; package 2A, from Kadok to Ketereh (6.85km), to be completed in November next year; and package 2B, from Ketereh to Kok Lanas (6.2km).

She said the implementation of physical projects for other packages would be done in stages under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

The project is part of the Central Spine Road, which will connect Pahang to Kota Baru in Kelantan. – November 8, 2017.
