THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief’s trips to Bali and Hong Kong should be investigated by a task force, said an opposition lawmaker today.

Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai) said a task force should be set up following the statement by the agency’s deputy chief commissioner, Azam Baki, earlier this year who said civil servants who lived beyond their means were an indicator of corruption.

“If the MACC chief did go on luxurious holidays, who will investigate him? I’m referring to the videos that went viral on the internet.

“I’m not interested in who went with him, as (we are) adults. But I want to focus on the allegations that he spent at least RM50,000 for the Bali trip and another RM50,000 for accommodation during the Hong Kong trip. How could MACC chief afford luxurious trips?” she said while debating Budget 2018.

Teo is referring to Dzulkifli Ahmad, who went on a holiday with a woman who is not his wife in Bali.

Police are investigating him for enticing a married woman. The inspector-general of police on Saturday said the investigation papers on the MACC chief will be submitted for the third time to the attorney-general.

“My question is who will investigate him (Dzulkifli) if he went on luxurious trips? Will a special task force be formed to investigate the matter and will he be asked to go on leave?” Teo said, adding that how could the people trust other MACC officers if Dzulkifli did not relinquish his post by going on leave.

A series of video clips had surfaced showing Dzulkifli holding hands with a woman and entering a restaurant in Bali.

The clips were uploaded anonymously on YouTube.

The woman in question has said her recent divorce had nothing to do with Dzulkifli, who has neither confirmed nor denied being the man in the videos and has only said he would not bow to such “dirty tactics”.

On October 16, a special task force was set up to monitor the investigations into the alleged offence and other related offences.

Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali said the Attorney-General’s Chambers had received numerous queries from the public relating to the reports lodged against the MACC chief. – November 14, 2017.
