PUTRAJAYA will table a Covid-19 temporary measures bill in Parliament next month to give protection for breaches of contractual obligations, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

“This bill is a temporary release from contractual obligations for a period of time.  

“The government hopes that with this act, Malaysians will be able to continue their lives.

“We hope to table the bill at the July parliamentary session,” he said when announcing the government’s  Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) today.

Various industries have called for a force majeure bill to be enacted since the movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19 was enforced on March 18. 

Last week, the government called for public proposals and recommendations to assist with the drafting of the temporary measures bill. 

Law minister Takiyuddin Hassan had said proposals for the bill should pertain to mitigating the impact of Covid-19 on businesses, including small and medium enterprises, and people. – June 5, 2020.
