THE findings of the royal commission of inquiry into the Bank Negara Malaysia forex scandal must be debated in Dewan Rakyat as it is a serious matter involving two former leaders, said Lim Guan Eng.

Lim (DAP-Bagan) said Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim were both in office at the time of the scandal.

“I want confirmation whether the RCI report –  a matter so serious that it calls for action to be taken against the former prime minister and finance minister at the time – will be put to a debate.

“Can time be given to allow the debate? Can we debate this matter?” said Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, in the Dewan Rakyat today

Both Dr Mahathir and Anwar are now leaders of the Pakatan Harapan opposition coalition that consists of DAP, Bersatu, PKR and Amanah.

Dr Mahathir is PH chairman while Anwar, who is serving time for sodomy, is the coalition’s de facto leader.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said replied that she would decide later as Lim had only just raised the matter in the House.

“I did not receive any notice from Bagan (Lim). Give me a little time,” she said.

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, said he would submit in writing his call to the House to debate the RCI report.

Today is the last day of the the year’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.
