HISBAH Centre For Reform (Hisbah) and Persatuan Anak Felda Kebangsaan (Anak) signed a memorandum of understanding in Kuala Lumpur today pledging to work together to unseat the Pekan MP, Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Under the campaign, Hisbah and Anak representatives will meet Pekan residents, especially those in Felda settlements, to reveal the corruption and mismanagement of Felda funds, said Hisbah chairman Ezam Mohamad Noor.
“We chose Pekan as the starting point because its Parliamentary representative, Najib Razak, is responsible for Felda.
“The Pekan constituency has many Felda land areas and settlers,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
Ezam said Hisbah had chosen to pair up with Anak for its excellent track record and commitment in bringing to light cases of corruption in Felda.
He said the campaign they were mounting would create an upset in the constituency, which had been held by Najib for 40 years.
“We chose Felda as the platform and main target because Felda is a Malay institute that is rife with all sorts of corruption scandals,” said Ezam.
“Hisbah sees that there is clearly an effort by leaders who are embroiled in corruption scandals to bring in issues of race and religion to divert attention from their wrongdoings. That is why we are launching this campaign.”
Anak chairman Mazlan Aliman told The Malaysian Insight that Hisbah was a partner in the campaign because the issues of corruption and abuse of power in Felda were simply too large for Anak to take on by itself.
“Ezam’s consistency and experience in fighting corruption was the main reason we agreed to work together.
“To start off, we will carry out this campaign in the PM’s area, and we will continue to other Felda areas,” he said, adding that the campaign will be launched on May 21.
Ezam, who is also founder and president of Parti Bebas Rasuah, also expressed his readiness to contest Najib for the Pekan seat in the coming general election. – May 7, 2017.
