DRIVEN by fears of her husband’s deportation, Ihsan Azlan’s wife has written to the police for permission to visit the Turk in jail, where he has been locked up since his arrest on May 3 for suspected involvement in terrorist activities.

Ainnurul Aisyah Yunus, 35, is worried that Ihsan will be deported back to Turkey without a trial, and hopes to be allowed to bring their three children to see him in jail.

“I am worried that my husband may be deported to Turkey without a fair trial in Malaysia, I am still in shock; there is no reason for them to arrest my husband.

“I am sending a letter today to PDRM to ask that I be able to meet my husband, I’m not sure it has been sent, but it is supposed to be sent today,” Ainnurul said in a press conference at Ara Damansara, Selangor today.

Ainnurul was prompted to write the letter after she contacted the Special Branch inspector in charge of her husband’s case last Friday.

“The Special Branch Inspector told me I could meet my husband on Thursday, because the inspector was outstation on Monday and Tuesday, and Wednesday was a public holiday. So the earliest, tentatively, was Thursday,” she said in tears.

She said she had also not been asked for a statement although the police contacted after the arrest of her husband to inform her that he was being investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has said that the police will be meeting and taking statements from the suspects’ families.

Ainnurul said her eldest son, who was with her, had autism and had been restless since his father’s arrest.

“He has been sitting at the window every night, waiting for his father to come back,” she said, over screams of “Daddy” from the son next to her.

She said her husband knew the two other Turks who were also arrested, but was not close to them.

“My husband has heard of the other two who got arrested, but that’s it. The Turkish community in Malaysia is a small one; everyone knows everyone.

Three Turkish nationals, namely Ihsan, Turgay Karaman and Ismet Ozcelik were arrested on May 3 and May 4.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Turgay and Ihsan were arrested for alleged links to IS. – May 8, 2017
