168 recoveries outnumber new Covid-19 infections

MALAYSIA saw more recoveries from Covid-19 than new cases today, with 168 people discharged from hospital after recovering from the novel coronavirus.

There were 82 new infections, however, of which 72 were local transmissions, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Of the 72 local transmissions, Sabah accounted for 60 cases.

Forty-one of them came from the Benteng Lahad Datu prison cluster, while the Pulau and Selamat clusters, both also in Sabah, saw six new infections.

The new cluster, called Bangau-Bangau in Semporna, contributed five infections.

Local transmissions were also detected in Kedah where there were 10 new cases, nine of which are from the Sungai cluster. The remaining one was in Kos Setar which is is currently under an administrative enhanced movement control order.

Selangor and Sarawak also reported one new infection each.

In terms of nationality, 60 of the local transmissions were Malaysians.

Of the 10 imported cases, nine are Malaysian medical students who had returned from India.

With the new infections, the national tally is now 10,358 while total recoveries are 9,563.

Active cases declined to 665 from 751 yesterday. Nine patients are in intensive care, with two of them intubated. 

No new deaths were reported, keeping the death toll at 130. – September 22, 2020.
