THE new Bangau-Bangau cluster in Sabah, announced today, is linked to Semporna Hospital, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The cluster of five infections to date, was detected from pre-admission screenings of patients.

Four of the patients are citizens and the remaining one is a foreigner.

All five tested positive for Covid-19 on September 21, he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

The source of infection is still under investigation, Dr Noor Hisham added.

“All of them were asymptomatic and have been admitted to Semporna Hospital for treatment.”

Health authorities have screened 97 people from this cluster as of noon today, with 92 still waiting for their Covid-19 test results.

The Semporna Hospital is open and functioning after being disinfected and sanitised.
