SYED Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s party Muda has appointed former attorney-general Tommy Thomas and senior lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan to legally push the Registrar of Societies to approve the party’s registration with immediate effect.
“If the approval is not given, we will bring the matter to court.
“We are disappointed with the delay,” said Syed Saddiq, who is the party’s protem president.
Earlier, he led members of the party to the RoS at Putrajaya to hand over their legal letter asking for the party’s approval within seven days.
He also questioned the delay of the registration, alluding the delay is more political in nature.
He said the registration was submitted to the RoS on September 17 and there had not been any news on their application since then.
“The ruling pact Perikatan Nasional was approved in three days.
“I remember when I was with Bersatu, that party was registered and approved within 30 days under the previous Barisan Nasional administration.
“I do not know why it was extremely easy to get approval during the leadership of Najib Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi compared with the current leadership,” said the former youth and sports minister.
He said the party was not seeking any special dispensation from the RoS, but added that such a long delay was unacceptable.
Muda is not the only party that has complained of delays from the RoS. Last week, Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang also went to court to compel the RoS to approve the party. – December 21, 2020.
