THE enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) has been extended at Amber Court apartment in Jalan Genting and the Muar rehabilitation centre in Johor, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The extension until January 20 is due to a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases, following screening activities.

“On the advice of and risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the government (has agreed) to continue the EMCO at both places,” he said at a briefing on Covid-19 movement restrictions.

The ministry has conducted 1,180 tests at the Amber Court Apartment, of which 454 cases turned out positive.

At the rehabilitation centre in Johor, a total of 827 tests were conducted, and 40 people tested positive.

On standard operating procedure enforcement, he said 152 individuals were arrested yesterday for various violations. All were compounded.

The offences include not wearing face masks, not providing registration or temperature checking equipment to record personal details, and failure to practice physical distancing.

Through Ops Benteng, a total of 29 illegal immigrants were arrested yesterday, while four land vehicles and three boats were confiscated.

As for compulsory quarantine, from July 24 until yesterday, a total of 98,286 individuals returned home through international border entrances and are housed in 74 hotels and 17 other premises, including the Public Training Institute (ILA) and private institutes of study nationwide.

“Of the total, 7,805 individuals are undergoing compulsory quarantine, 540 (have been) sent to hospital for treatment, while 81,912 (have been) allowed to return,” he said. – January 5, 2021.
