THOSE who have bought flight, train and bus tickets to go back to their hometowns during the movement-control order (MCO) period can do so, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“To those who have purchased flight, train and express bus tickets, the ministry will not stop their journey,” Ismail Sabri said at a press conference today.
“If there are elderly parents left alone in their hometowns, please do attend to their needs.
“Please head home immediately, if possible, by this Friday,” he said.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the MCO will be implemented in six states from tomorrow until January 26 to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
Under the standard operating procedure, interdistrict and inter-state travel is banned but Ismail Sabri today said they will not stop the people from travelling if they have purchased their tickets.
He also said aid movement can be mobilised to flood areas but must have permission from police.
“The disaster must be reported so that the respective authorities in the area are aware of the situation.
“Although not compulsory, these helpers are encouraged to take the Covid-19 test.”
This would prevent the virus from infecting the people they are helping, he added. – January 12, 2021.
