SELF-service laundry centres are allowed to operate under the movement-control order (MCO) but with an employee present to monitor and maintain the standard operating procedure, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Authorities can issue a fine if the laundry does not have a staff at the place to make sure there is social distancing and also temperature scanning.

“This is done in order to avoid the location to be crowded,” said the defence minister today in his daily press conference.

He added public parks were also not allowed to operate under the MCO.

“Jogging and cycling are only allowed in neighbourhood areas, not in neighbourhood parks,” he said.

“There have been reports of congestion at public parks within the MCO area.

“This is why I want to emphasise that public parks are closed in MCO areas and no sports or leisure activities allowed in public parks during this period,” he said.

Yesterday a group of Pakatan Harapan MPs from Kuala Lumpur urged City Hall to reconsider its decision to close all public parks and playgrounds due to the MCO.

The MPs said the ruling was not in line with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech on Monday in which he noted that long periods of isolation can take a toll on mental health. – January 14, 2021.
