Minister rules out visitors, lion dances for Chinese New Year

CHINESE New Year celebrations are limited to only among family members, and may not feature guests and lion dance performances, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today. 

People are not allowed to visit one another, as is customary, during the festival, which falls on February 12 and 13.

“Lion dances and other cultural performances are also not permitted during the Chinese New Year period, ” he said in a daily media briefing.

As for the traditional prayers at the temples, he said only five temple committee members are allowed to be in the building at a time.

Interstate travel is also barred during the festive holidays, he said.

He said Sarawak will announce the state’s Chinese New Year SOPs soon.

Meanwhile, the movement-control order was today extended until February 18 in all states except for Sarawak.

The order was issued for two weeks on January 14 and has since been extended twice as coronavirus infections hit record highs, exceeding 5,000 last week. – February 4, 2021.
