TURKISH national Ihsan Azlan may have been deported by the Malaysian police last night, but his wife only found out about it from a journalist later.
“I didn’t know about the deportation. I only found out about it this morning when a journalist called me,” Ainnurul Aisyah Yunus, 35, told reporters at Publika Shopping Gallery this evening.
According to Ainnurul, her husband has been here since 2001 and had a valid spouse visa, although he is not a permanent resident. They have been married since 2003.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted about 11am that three Turkish nationals – Turgay Karaman, Ihsan Azlan and Izmet Ozcelik – were deported back to Ankara last night.
Later in a statement, Khalid said the three were linked to the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (Feto) outlawed by Turkey and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
“We saw him last around 3pm to 4pm (yesterday) and I found out about it from a journalist around 11am, and (confirmed it) from the IGP’s tweet.”
Ainnurul said her husband was from Manisa, Turkey, and that she also confirmed Ihsan’s arrival in Ankara via her father-in-law today.
“I received a call from my father-in-law, he mentioned that my husband is already in Ankara and that is all I know,” she said.
Breaking down in tears, Ainnurul managed to maintain her composure to tell reporters that she planned to see her husband next week.
“I didn’t expect this to happen at all… we met him yesterday and everything was well. He thought that he would be released soon.”
Present today was their lawyer Noor Svetlane Mohd Noor Nordin, who said she and Ainnurul had retrieved Ihsan’s belongings at Bukit Aman. She said a few items were missing.
A representative of the other two deported Turkish nationals – Turgay and Ismet – issued a press statement before leaving in a hurry.
The man said the families of both Turgay and Ismet are frightened and have refused to speak to the media.
Both Ismet and Turgay have valid passes to remain in Malaysia and are persons of concern under the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). – May 12, 2017.
