DR Mahathir Mohamad’s apology for past wrongs is an honourable act by a statesman, said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
“He has apologised to all and said that as a normal human being, he has made mistakes.
“
“I view this as a very dignified and honourable act,” he said in his winding-up speech at the party’s inaugural annual general meeting in Shah Alam.
Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir earlier today apologised “for all the wrongs” he had done, towards the end of his policy speech at the assembly.
It was the first time the former prime minister, who has been criticised for clamping down on freedoms and eroding institutional independence during his 22-year rule, has explicitly apologised.
Muhyiddin also called on Bersatu members to remain focused on winning the next general election, and channel all efforts towards mobilising the party’s machinery to secure wins for the party and its partners in Pakatan Harapan.
“If we do this, we can end Najib Razak’s rule. Our machinery needs to work better to ensure each vote comes to us, whether it’s a PH or Bersatu candidate.
“
“This is an excellent chance for us because the people are disgusted with Barisan Nasional and Najib’s administration.” – December 30, 2017.
