FOUR Felda areas in Maran, Pahang, have been placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) following a drastic spike in Covid-19 cases, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Health Ministry recorded a sharp increase in infections among settlers in Felda Jengka 1, Felda Jengka 2, Felda Jengka 7 and Felda Ulu Jempol.

“To date, 46 Covid-19 cases have been reported involving residents living in these areas.

“The EMCO will start tomorrow and end on March 15,” he said in a statement today.

The lockdown will facilitate contact tracing and isolation of people in these areas.

It will also ensure that residents here who are at risk of infection will not leave the area.

On foreign workers who have been screened for Covid-19 to date, Ismail Sabri said 10,963 were tested yesterday, adding to the total of 540,473 screened under the government’s drive to get all migrant labourers tested.

This initiative has so far involved 28,194 employers and 1,497 clinics. – March 1, 2021.
