PAS will continue supporting Barisan Nasional and still wants Najib Razak to remain as prime minister, said Pakatan Harapan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

This, she said, was evident after PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s rejection of the proposal to appoint an interim prime minister, which he claimed was not in accordance with the Constitution.

I think this must be the case with PAS after its secretary-general said appointing a temporary prime minister is not in keeping with the Constitution.

“So, PAS wants to retain the prime minister, and for that, the party is being praised,” she told the media in Putrajaya today.

Wan Azizah’s comments come after Najib praised PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in his New Year speech and attacked mentor-turned-nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib described Hadi as a leader who took a mature approach to politics, and praised him for his willingness to work with the government on specific issues.

The prime minister used as examples the Islamist party chief’s willingness to work with Putrajaya on the Rohingya and Palestine issues.

Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said PAS was not serious about being in the opposition as its leader’s actions were praised by the prime minister.

“If Umno praises you as a good opposition political party, you’re a boy scout. You’re a good opposition party because you follow them, and do not disturb or threaten their position.” – January 2, 2018.
