Tighter lockdown on Tioman Island from midnight, says Ismail Sabri

THE government has agreed to implement an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on Tioman Island for March 16-29 after a reported spike in cases, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“As of March 14, the Ministry of Health has screened 48 people with 16 Covid-19 cases recorded,” he said in a statement.

According to Ismail Sabri, the EMCO is so the ministry can carry out targeted screening on all residents, as well as to control the movement and the spread of infection in the community.

He also said that government has agreed to extend the movement control order (MCO) in Nabawan, Sabah, for another 14 days from March 17 to March 30.

“As of today, the ministry has conducted 3,079 screening tests and a cumulative 279 cases have been recorded.

“The ministry also confirmed that there are still 872 screening samples that have not received results,” he said.

The Nabawan MCO had been due to expire tomorrow.

Ismail Sabri said 458 people were arrested for breaching the MCO yesterday and from this number, 438 were issued with compounds and seven were remanded.

The offences involved entertainment centre activities (260), crossing districts/states without permission (90), failing to provide equipment/record self/customer (40), not self-isolating (39), not wearing face mask (26), premises operating overtime/without permission (3). – March 15, 2021.
