THE enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) in Rumah Sewa Anong and Rumah Sewa Beverly Hills in Bintulu, Sarawak has been extended to March 25, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The two-week EMCO was due to end tomorrow but it has now been extended by a week after the Health Ministry (MOH) recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 infections in the two areas, he said.

“The MOH conducted 1,407 screening tests and of that total, 85 Covid-19 cases were recorded.

“The EMCO was supposed to end tomorrow but after further advice from MOH, it has been extended,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also said 125 people were arrested for breaching the MCO yesterday, and from this number, 111 were issued with compounds and 14 were remanded.

The offences involved crossing districts/states without permission (43), not wearing masks (29), failing to provide equipment/record self/customer (28), physical distancing (11), not self-isolating (5) and others.

On foreign workers who have been screened for Covid-19 to date, Ismail Sabri said 3,567 were tested yesterday, adding to the total of 627,010 screened under the government’s drive to get all migrant labourers tested.

This initiative has so far involved 32,435 employers and 1,529 clinics. – March 17, 2021.
