THE enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) at Tapah Prison in Batang Padang, Perak will be extended until April 12, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This extension is made after health authorities discovered continuing Covid-19 transmissions at the prison.

The EMCO at the staff quarters of the prison, however, will end on March 29.

“As of March 25, the Ministry of Health has conducted 3,787 screenings and out of that number, 834 positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the prison.

“The ministry confirmed that there were still infections involving detainees, with 27 positive cases reported yesterday,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the National Security Council had also put into effect the EMCO at the Rohaniah care centre of Integrasi Ikhwan School in Kampung Gong Kulim, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan from March 29 to April 11.

Ismail Sabri said, to date, 25 Covid-19 positive cases had been recorded in this locality.

He added that 107 individuals were arrested for flouting the MCO yesterday, and from this number, 89 were issued with compounds and 18 were remanded. – March 28, 2021.
