FIVE areas in Pekan, Pahang, are subject to an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) following a drastic spike in Covid-19 cases, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Ministry of Health discovered a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases among factory workers in the Teknologi Peramu Jaya cluster in Pekan.

“To date, 67 Covid-19 cases have been reported involving this cluster.

“The EMCO will start tomorrow and end on April 22,” he said in a statement today.

The EMCO will involve Taman Mentiga Jaya, Taman Perdana, Perkampungan Peramu Jaya 3, Taman Sepekan Makmur and Kampung Pulau Serai.

Ismail said 64 people were arrested for flouting the MCO yesterday and from this number, 59 were issued with compounds and five remanded.

The offences involved inter-district/state travel without permission (32), not wearing a mask (19), failing to provide tools for recording customer particulars (10) and lack of physical distancing (three).

Ismail also said 37 illegal immigrants were detained, and six land vehicles seized. – April 8, 2021.
