FOUR areas in Sabah have been put under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) following a drastic spike in Covid-19 cases, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The EMCO will start tomorrow and end on April 23,” he said in a statement today.

He said the Health Ministry (MoH) had conducted 38 screenings and out of that, five Covid-19 positive cases were recorded in Gayang village in Tuaran.

The three other areas to be put under EMCO are the industrial training institute, Taman Permata and Taman Seri Labuk in Sandakan.

“MoH has conducted 88 screening tests in the institute and from there, seven Covid-19 positive cases were detected.

“Five positive cases were detected in Taman Permata and another five in Taman Seri Labuk,” Ismail said.

Meanwhile, 94 people were arrested for flouting the MCO yesterday and from this number, 93 were issued with compounds and one was remanded.

The offences involved premises operating overtime (44), cross-border travel without permission (17), not wearing a mask (15), lack of physical distancing (9), failing to provide tools for recording customer particulars (6) and entertainment centre activities (3).

Ismail also said 14 illegal immigrants were detained, and seven land vehicles seized. – April 9, 2021.
