BARISAN Nasional might profit from three-cornered fights at the 14th general election, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Going by the results of the Sg Besar by-election, there is a huge chance that three-cornered fights will benefit BN, said Khairy.

In the Sg Besar by election last year, BN candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi defeated Pakatan Harapan’s Azhar Abdul Shukor and PAS’ Abdul Rani Osman by 9,191 votes.

The seat fell vacant following the death of deputy plantations industries and commodities minister Noriah Kasnon who won by 399 votes over PAS’ Mohamed Salleh Hussin in 2013.

“However, BN Youth is preparing for straight fights. We don’t have to do three-cornered simulations as it may give us the wrong picture. We have to stick one-on-one battles,” said the youth and sports minister after the National Youth Premier Awards 2017 event in Putrajaya today.

Earlier, PAS had said the party intends to contest in 100 parliamentary seats in the next general election.

Khairy said BN is ready to face three-cornered fights in the whole country. However, Khairy declined to comment if three-cornered fights would help BN reclaim its two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

On working with PAS, the Umno Youth chief said the matter has to be examined in detail before they decide on anything. – May 15, 2017.
