THE public no longer requires police approval in order to travel to medical appointments, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob

The senior minister clarified that those going to clinics or hospitals for their medical appointments need only to show their appointment cards if enquired by the authorities.

This decision was announced amid the nationwide inter-district travel restriction that comes into effect tomorrow as the government attempts to mitigate the resurgence of Covid-19 cases.

Ismail Sabri said prior to this, the government received complaints from the public about the need to get police approval to attend appointments at hospitals or clinics.

“This has caused hardship, particularly for those who need periodic treatment such as cancer and kidney failure patients.

“For patients who have doctor’s appointments or periodic treatment, it would suffice to just show the appointment card,” he said.

Yesterday, Ismail Sabri announced that those who wished to travel interstate or inter-district were prohibited if they did not have a valid police letter.

So far, MCO has been enforced in six districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, as well as in parts of Johor, Terengganu, Perak, and the whole of Kelantan.

Yesterday, several districts in Penang and Pahang and sub-districts in Perak were also placed under MCO. – May 9, 2021.
