MALAYSIA reported 3,973 new Covid-19 cases today, taking the country’s cumulative total to 448,457, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said there were also 22 deaths in the past 24 hours.

He said Selangor once again contributed the bulk of the new infections, at 1,328.

This would be the 19th straight day that the state is topping the daily chart of new Covid-19 cases.

Noor Hisham said Sarawak took the second spot with 512 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 483 infections.

He added that 2,848 recoveries were recorded today, thus bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 408,236.

He also said the number of admissions in intensive care units increased from 434 cases yesterday to a new high of 453 cases today, while those requiring respiratory support also increased to 244. 

Elaborating on the fatalities, Noor Hisham said of the 22 victims, 14 were male and eight were female, all except one with chronic medical conditions. 

Eight deaths were reported in the Klang Valley, four in Kelantan, two each in Perak and Johor, and one each in Sarawak, Sabah, and Pahang. – May 11, 2021.
