MALAYSIA recorded 6,806 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count yet since the start of the pandemic, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Selangor continued its record of being the state with the highest number of daily cases, at 2,277, followed by Kuala Lumpur (655) and Johor (615).

The previous all-time daily high was yesterday when 6,075 new infections were registered.

Other states such as Sarawak reported 608 cases, Kelantan (426), Kedah (417), Penang (362), Negri Sembilan (291), Perak (248), Sabah (245), Terengganu (233), Malacca (212), Pahang (157), Putrajaya (35), Labuan (17) and Perlis (8).

In a tweet, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 492,302.

Noor Hisham said that out of the positive cases today, two were imported, of which both were Malaysians.

Meanwhile, the country hit a record high of 59 deaths today. The national death toll is now at 2,099. – May 20, 2021.
