MALAYSIA has recorded 6,976 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count yet since the start of the pandemic, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

According to Noor Hisham, Selangor’s 2,235 new cases meant it was still the state with the highest number of infections, followed by Sarawak (663 cases) and Kelantan (626 cases).

The previous all-time daily high was 6,806 cases, recorded last week.

Noor Hisham said Malaysia had 512,091 cumulative cases to date.

State by state, there were 549 new cases in Johor, 422 in Kedah, 447 in Kuala Lumpur, 372 in Penang, 434 in Negri Sembilan, 279 in Perak, 136 in Sabah, 266 in Terengganu, 209 in Malacca, 263 in Pahang, 30 in Putrajaya, 37 in Labuan and eight in Perlis. – May 23, 2021.
