Record 681 people in ICU with Covid-19

MALAYSIA today recorded 681 people in intensive care units, the highest count yet since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 361 needing intubation, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said the country also recorded 49 Covid-19 deaths, taking the nationwide cumulative toll to 2,248.
He said there were 3,587 recoveries today, bringing the total figure to 452,821.
Meanwhile, the country recorded 6,976 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count since the start of the pandemic.
Noor Hisham said all who died were Malaysians and most of them were above 40 and with comorbidities.
Of the 49 deaths, six were brought in dead (BID).
The two youngest BID cases were locals, aged 33 and 36. Both had a history of medical conditions.
The 33-year-old was a woman who had an overweight problem. She was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The 36-year-old was a man who was brought to the Tengku Anis Hospital, Pasir Puteh in Kelantan. He had high-blood pressure and gout and was obese.
There were five deaths of people below the age of 40 today. The youngest was a 25-year-old woman in Johor while the second youngest was a 27-year-old man in Selangor.
Both of them had no known health problems.
The highest number of deaths were in Selangor (14), followed by Johor (eight), Penang (six) and Malacca (six).
Others states that reported deaths were Kedah (four), Sarawak (three), two each in Sabah, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Kelantan and Perlis. – May 23, 2021.
