SEVERAL sub-districts and localities in Perak, Johor and Sarawak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) following a surge in Covid-19 cases in these places.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the affected areas are Mukim Bagan Serai in Kerian, Perak; Felda Redong 1 in Segamat, Johor, as well as two longhouses and a primary school in Daro, Sarawak.

He said all of these areas will undergo the EMCO starting May 27 until June 9.

For the sub-district of Bagan Serai, Ismail said the Ministry of Health (MOH) has recorded 53 Covid-19 cases up to May 24, out of 144 Covid-19 screening.

“MOH also found that current cases are scattered in the sub-district and are not concentrated in one locality or area,” he said, adding that the infection rate has also gone up in the area.

He said the rate of occurrence for Bagan Serai has also gone up from 42.5 to 62.6.

Meanwhile, for Felda Redong, Ismail said 67 people have tested positive.

“Out of 361 that were screened, 67 were found positive. With this, MOH also found that infection rate in the area is also still high.”

In Daro, the longhouses of Isa Anak Blone, Ben Anak Kuleng and Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gelam will undergo EMCO after 12 cases were reported after 153 were screened for the coronavirus.

He said the EMCO for these areas will help MOH speed up its Covid-19 screening test on residents. – May 25, 2021.
