TO date, some 48,261 children and babies have been infected with Covid-19 in Malaysia.
Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a press statement said, out of the sum, over 6,290 were toddlers 18 months old or younger.
He warned that children were not immune to the Covid-19 virus.
“If before this, the elderly were the ones at risk of contracting Covid-19, it seems that now, the virus threat has spread to the children,” he said, adding that the latest data of children contracting Covid-19 was concerning.
He said this news should be a wake-up to all, especially parents.
“We as adults must be responsible in protecting children from getting infected.
“Therefore, aside from emphasising on compliance to SOPs, we must also impose a ‘self-lockdown’ or self-imposed movement restrictions to avoid ourselves, children and loved ones from getting infected,” he said.
The health ministry reported 7,289 Covd-19 cases over the last 24-hours.
This is the first time the daily number of cases exceeded the 7,000-mark. – May 25, 2021.
