Record 63 Covid-19 deaths, 756 in ICU

SIXTY-THREE Covid-19 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, making it the highest number of fatalities in a single day since the onset of the pandemic, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The national death toll is now 2,432.
Meanwhile, there was also an increase of 30 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICU), bringing the number of those critically ill with the virus to 756.
Noor Hisham said 377 patients currently require respiratory support.
Noor Hisham said out of the 63 deaths reported today, seven were brought in dead.
The youngest fatality was of a 20-year-old male from Kuala Lumpur while the oldest was a 94-year-old woman from Selangor, both of whom had no known comorbidities.
Apart from the two, the majority of the deaths today were those between the ages of 40 and 90, with comorbidities. Twelve died without any known medical disease or condition.
Selangor reported the highest number of fatalities with 24 deaths, followed by Kuala Lumpur (nine), eight each in Johor and Kedah, Perak (five), Malacca (three), two each in Sarawak and Negri Sembilan, and one each in Sabah and Pahang.
The country recorded 7,478 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count since the start of the pandemic. – May 26, 2021.
