NOT remembering the appointment date and having no transportation were among the reasons given by more than 10,000 people in Terengganu who did not show up to receive their vaccinations, said state health affairs exco Alias Razak.
Alias said a large number of them who did not show up were also senior citizens.
“Terengganu is one of the states that recorded low attendance (for vaccinations). We have estimated more than 10,000 people missed their vaccinations.
“Most excuses were, failing to remember the date and not having transportation to go to the vaccination centres,” said Alias who also heads the Terengganu PAS vaccination committee, which helps to register people for the vaccination.
Through the programme, all state service centres will provide vehicles to take people to the vaccination centres (PPV) and back home.
A total of 339,233 individuals had registered for vaccination as of May 30 and of this number, 40.30%, or 76,919, people were vaccinated at 14 PPV locations across the state.
Alias also said the state government will turn the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) at the Health Ministry’s training institute into an additional ward to accommodate the growing number of Covid-19 patients.
He said the proposal was a follow-up after beds at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) were all taken up.
“We will be informed of the actual situation of beds in Terengganu and if it is critical, we will have to make the PKRC a Covid-19 ward,” he said.
He added the state government will add more PKRCs following the increase in daily positive cases.
Terengganu yesterday recorded 198 new cases bringing the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state to 8,969. – June 1, 2021.
