PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir has suggested that Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates use the PKR logo in the next general election.
The PKR flag should be the symbol of PH in the 15th general election to regain the confidence of the people, he said in his opening speech at the party’s youth congress today.
“To mobilise strength and restore the confidence of the people, PKR youth would like to propose that the PKR logo be used to represent PH in the next GE,” he said.
In his speech, Akmal reiterated PKR and PH’s stand to nominate Anwar Ibrahim as the prime ministerial candidate.
He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to DAP and Amanah, who also gave their full support to appoint the PH chairman as the prime ministerial candidate.
“Talks of wanting to suggest other individuals are just to split this coalition,” he said.
On April 9, PH reaffirmed its stance in the Port Dickson Resolution, announced after the party leadership’s retreat.
PH used the PKR logo in GE14 because the pact’s registration had not been approved by the Barisan Nasional government at the time.
PH was only approved for registration by the Registrar of Societies on May 16, 2018, a week after the Barisan Nasional government collapsed.
The PH logo was then used for the first time in the Seri Setia and Balakong by-elections in August 2018.
Meanwhile, Akmal also supported an online petition urging Mohamed Azmin Ali’s resignation as the international trade and industry minister for failing in his duties, resulting in the “half-baked” movement-control orders.
“We can see from the petition against (Pasir Salak MP) Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, (which garnered) 139,000 (virtual) signatures. He had to resign as Prasarana chairman.
“Today we see the petition against Azmin, 172,000 (virtual) signatures. As PKR youth chairman and representing Johor Baru voters, I urge all of you to also show support,” said the MP.
“If we can reach 200,000 signatures, we will see whether the prime minister will dare ask Azmin to resign or otherwise,” Akmal added.
Azmin has been under fire for allowing a large number of businesses – particularly those in the manufacturing sector – to continue their operations during the total lockdown period. – June 5, 2021.
