PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim said there was no mention of forming a new government, following his audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah this morning.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said he requested the king refrain from extending the state of emergency after it ends on August 1.
He said the emergency has been hard on the people, and was “only causing losses for the country”.
He said that he also raised several other issues in the meeting, including the present situation in the country, people’s confidence and investors’ confidence.
“We asked for changes (in handling these) and we started on these discussions.
“The issue of change of government was not brought up,” he told reporters at the entrance of Istana Negara after his meeting.
Anwar had arrived at Istana Negara at 10.37am and left at 12.10pm.
It is understood that the king will also be meeting other political party leaders today and tomorrow concerning the current state of the country.
Earlier this morning Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin also had a meeting with the king, believed to be his weekly session with the ruler before chairing the cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said the king will have an audience with party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng this afternoon.
It has been reported that the king will be meeting with political party leaders one-by-one until Friday.
On Tuesday, sources told The Malaysian Insight the meetings were supposedly restricted to registered political parties only, while not revealing the agenda for the meetings.
However, yesterday, Pejuang information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin said chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been granted on audience on Thursday. – June 9, 2021.
