A PRICE ceiling for Covid-19 tests has been set under the Emergency Ordinance, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.
“We have used the Emergency Ordinance to set a price ceiling for all lab tests for RT-PCR, RTK-Antigen and antibody tests,” he said in a joint press conference with Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today.
He was responding to a question by the press on whether there is a need to control the price of Covid-19 tests due the higher cost charged by the private sector.
Adham said outlets conducting tests would have to itemise the cost components if it exceeds the price ceiling.
He said those who have been subjected to exorbitant charges may lodge a complaint to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).
The RT-PCR test could cost up to RM350 at private facilities and over RM100 for the RTK-Antigen and antibody tests.
On another note, 628,110 test samples were taken last week with an average of 89,985 tests done a day. The test positivity rate was 6.6% – June 14, 2021.
