Covid-19 death toll surpasses 4,000-mark

THE country’s Covid-19 death toll breached the 4,000-mark today after 101 people succumbed to the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said the fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,069.
The highest number of deaths was 126 on June 2, followed by 109 on June 6 and 103 on June 3.
Meanwhile, the number of intensive care units (ICU) admissions continued on a record-breaking streak for the 39th day running, with 922 cases.
A total of 450 patients were given respiratory support.
There were nine dead on arrival cases today.
The youngest person to succumb to Covid-19 today was a 29-year-old woman who died at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban. The deceased suffered from heart disease and a condition related to the blood.
Covid-19 also claimed the life of a 91-year-old man, who was the oldest person on the victims’ list today. The deceased who had high blood pressure, dyslipedemia, heart problem and chronic kidney disease, died at the Malacca Hospital.
About half of the deaths today were reported in Selangor (50 cases).
This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (11 cases), Johor (10 cases), Negri Sembilan (8 cases) and Labuan (4 cases).
Sabah, Pahang, Kedah, and Kelantan reported three cases each while Sarawak saw two cases.
Penang, Malacca, Terengganu and Perak reported one death each.
Meanwhile, 6,831 people recuperated from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours and this pushes the total number of recoveries to 593,695.
Active cases, on the other hand, stood at 70,112. – June 15, 2021.
