PERIKATAN Nasional’s failure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic shows that it does not deserve to be in government, said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
The PN administration has failed to contain daily virus infections which are still high, he told his party’s 15th national congress today, held online.
“Although India has more Covid-19 cases than us, the cases per million in Malaysia are higher than India.
“This shows failure… yet some ministers will say it is not a failure, more a darurat (emergency).
“It doesn’t matter whether it is an emergency, (whatever) it is, it is still a failure. Full stop. They must be changed,” Anwar said when winding up the congress this afternoon.
The opposition leader and MP for Port Dickson said the PN government appeared strong but actually lacked ideas.
“One by one, the people, the farmers, the fisherman, the smallholders, the urban poor, the public in general and finally, the Malay Rulers, have reprimanded them over the vaccination programme, over poverty, over people’s suffering and political stability,” he said, referring to the decree by Yang di-Pertuan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah last week for Parliament to convene as soon as possible.
In a separate statement after a special meeting last week, the rulers agreed with the king, also saying there was no need to extend the state of emergency after it expires on August 1. – June 20, 2021.
