ICU cases dip, recoveries outnumber new cases

INTENSIVE Care Unit (ICU) cases saw a slight dip to 875 today from yesterday’s 880 while recoveries from Covid-19 outstripped new cases, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 445 patients were on respiratory support as of noon today.
Meanwhile, 5,557 people had recuperated from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative total of recoveries to 639,181.
There were 4,743 new cases reported today which pushed the national caseload to 705,762. Only two of today’s cases were imported while the rest were locally transmitted.
The lower number of daily infections in the last few days, however, come amid concerns that testing is insufficient and the positive rate remains high at around 7%.
Active cases, meanwhile, continued on a downtrend to 62,027 from yesterday’s 62,918.
As for deaths, 77 people succumbed to Covid-19. The new fatalities have raised the death toll to 4,554.
Eleven of the deaths reported today were dead-on-arrival cases.
The oldest fatality was a 91-year-old woman who died at the Shah Alam hospital. She had a history of diabetes, blood pressure and heart attack.
The youngest was a 25-year-old woman who died at the Sultanah Nora Ismail hospital, in Batu Pahat, Johor. No information was available on her health status.
Selangor recorded the highest number of deaths with 32 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan with 12 cases.
Other states that reported fatalities were Johor (eight), Sarawak (seven), Kuala Lumpur (five) and Malacca (four).
Sabah and Labuan reported three deaths each while Pahang, Perlis and Terengganu reported one case each. – June 22, 2021.
