New Covid-19 cases back at 5,000 mark

AFTER hovering over the 4,000 range for two days, Malaysia today registered 5,244 new Covid-19 infections.
The daily tally was back in the 5,000 bracket after reporting 4,743 and 4,611 cases respectively in the past two days.
Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases have taken the national caseload to 711,006.
Selangor led the tally with 2,001 cases followed by Negri Sembilan with 677.
Other states that reported new cases were Sarawak (577), Sabah (129), Kelantan (81), Penang (159), Perak (75), Kedah (189), Malacca (180), Pahang (245), Terengganu (27) and Labuan (77).
Putrajaya and Perlis reported the least number of cases with 13 and one case respectively.
Meanwhile, a total of 250,529 Covid-19 vaccine doses were dispensed yesterday under the national immunisation programme. To date, this is the highest number in a single day.
The Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said 190,244 were the first dose and 60,285 the second dose.
As of 11.59pm yesterday, 6.3 million doses had been administered.
This brings it to 1.72 million people, or 5.3% of the population, who have been fully vaccinated with two doses while 4.57 million people, or 14% of the population have received one dose. – June 23, 2021.
