Klang Valley accounts for nearly half of new Covid-19 infections

MALAYSIA reported 5803 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with nearly half of the cases coming from the Klang Valley, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The latest reported figures take the national case toll to 728,462, he said in his daily briefing.

Selangor reported 2108 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan with 741 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 628 infections.

Other states reporting infections today were Johor (329), Sabah (189), Sarawak (491), Kelantan (103), Penang (160), Perak (137), Kedah (186), Malacca (355), Pahang (220), Terengganu (29), Labuan (99), Putrajaya (24) and Perlis (four).

In a related note, the total doses of vaccine administered under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme has now passed 7 million after 215,968 doses were administered yesterday.

The special committee for ensuring access to covid-19 vaccine supply said 148,380 doses administered yesterday were first doses.

Some 1.96 million people or 6% of the population have been inoculated with their two-dose schedule while 5.07 million or 15.5% of the population had received one dose. – June 26, 2021.
